HTML Document Technology Transfer

Technolgy Transfer institutions and documents from Germany

The Clearing-House Mechanism (CHM) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is expected to „promote and facilitate technical and scientific cooperation“. Decision VII/29 by the Conference of the Parties 2004 in Kuala Lumpur, allocates in Programme Element 2) of the Programme of Work on “Technology Transfer” a clear mandate to the CHM to contribute to this expectation. The exchange or development of technologies takes place in the context of “cooperation” of long-term partnerships. This exchange can have the form of Knowledge and experiences (so-called “soft” technologies) or can be in form of concrete, practical technologies (so-called “hard” technologies). However, as Nitin Desai at WSSD stated “Partnerships are instruments of change” – technology transfer and technology cooperation should contribute via long-term partnerships to changes.

On this website we offer selected documents on Technology Transfer and a list of selected institutions and organisations working on specific areas of technologies which we think are of interest and could perform a first-stop for those interested in these kinds of technologies.

  • 40 Shades of Technology Transfer. published: CBD COP7 (PDF 650 KB) With 'The 40 Shades of Biodiversity Technology Transfer' we exemplarily glance at the diverse 'soft' and 'hard' technologies grouped in eight main clusters being identified during the study as possible TT areas. These 8 clusters are visualized on the Poster 'The 40 Shades of Biodiversity Technology Transfer' in the center of this paper. To each of the eight clusters a selected list of project numbers is attached. They represent only a ‘Shade’ on the variety and diversity of technologies potentially being transferred or which could be points of technology cooperations.
